The conclusion of the Ministry of Education’s annual Inter-Secondary School Debates brought cheers and excitement as Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) emerged victorious against St. George’s Secondary School.

Naomi Onwufuju, Adrianne Thomas, and Kande Richardson of the ESHS debated the topic, "All students exiting secondary school in the Virgin Islands should attain a technical qualification." The members of the team showcased their dedication including late-night prep sessions and honed skills that led them to clinch the 2024 Inter-Secondary School Debate Championships.

The team received numerous awards, including multiple best speaker accolades and the prestigious overall best speaker award won by Ms. Onwufuju.

Reflecting on their journey, Ms. Onwufuju expressed her determination to leave high school with a bang, while Ms. Thomas highlighted the team’s growth from last year’s second-place finish to this year’s triumph. Ms. Richardson also emphasised the importance of this win to boost ESHS's reputation and morale.

An impromptu speech segment showcased the eloquence of students from various schools, with Ms. Onwufuju winning the top spot for ESHS. Additionally, ESHS received the honour of representing the Virgin Islands in the upcoming National Tourism Debate, announced by the BVI Tourist Board at the end of the event.

Mr. Israel George of the Bregado Flax Educational Centre captured second place in the impromptu speech segment while Mr. Rajon Gibbs of Claudia Creque Education Centre placed third.
