The Labour Department is encouraging all employers to become familiar with the Virgin Islands Labour Code 2010 and to be aware of the Labour Inspector's duties as outlined within the Code.

Under this code, the practice of denying access or hampering an officer in the performance of his/her duties is an offence. Employers are directed to Sections 13, 14, 20 and 21 of the Virgin Islands Labour Code 2010. The code outlines the duties and the types of access or "powers" the inspector has. Employers are reminded that according to the Labour Code, a fine, not exceeding $5000, can be issued to those who are not in compliance.

For more information concerning Labour Inspections, persons may call 468-4708 (Tortola) and or 468-6526 (Virgin Gorda).
