The Eagles, Team D of the Premier’s Office and the Ministry of Finance has captured the Public Service Week 2017 Championship.

This was announced at the Closing and Awards Ceremony to officially conclude Public Service Week 2017 yesterday, June 12.

Four teams from the Public Service engaged in friendly competition for year-long bragging rights as champions of the week.

The Eagles also won the Employee Race and Bingo competitions, in addition to gaining points for having the highest number of attendees at the Prayers and Recognition Ceremony and the Run/Walk/Cycle event.

The Panthers, Team A, which is comprised of the Ministry of Communications and Works placed second overall and received the Team Spirit Award.

Team B, Supersonics, with members from the Governor’s Group and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour along with Team C, Warriors, comprised of the Ministry of Health and Social Development and the Ministry of Education and Culture tied for third place.

Team Supersonics also won the Dominoes competition and the Head of the Public Service Trivia.  Team Warriors won the Talent Competition.

Acting Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Carolyn Stoutt Igwe, thanked public officers for their hard work and enthusiasm in making the week a success.

Mrs. Stoutt Igwe encouraged the officers to continue to give of their best and participate in the building of the Public Service.  She expressed gratitude to the Public Service Week 2017 Steering Committee co-chaired by Mrs. LeTaye Garrin and Wendy Kelsick from the Ministry of Education and Culture for their incredible work in planning the week of activities.

Public Service Week 2017 began on Sunday, June 4, with the Head of the Public Service Trivia, a modelling segment in collaboration with UMI Fashions, and a Talent Show at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall. 

The Prayers and Recognition Ceremony which merged the Employee Recognition Ceremony with the Prayer Service was held on the grounds of the Central Administration Complex on Tuesday, June 6. 

Other activities included the Community Service Projects which saw each team complete a project based on an area of focus (social, environment, health and education), the Employee Race, Dominoes, Bingo and an All-Star Basketball Game in Virgin Gorda where Tortola emerged victorious.

Public Service Week 2017 was held from June 4 to 12 under the theme, “One Public Service:  A Celebration of Togetherness.”  The event is held annually to highlight the contributions of the public service to the Territory’s development, and to give members of the public an opportunity to gain a better appreciation and understanding for the work of the Public Service.
