Dr. Sandra M. Besson is the new Deputy Director for Political Affairs at the British Virgin Islands London Office.

Dr. Besson assumed the responsibility on February 15 and is responsible for Commonwealth and European Union (EU) Affairs and will help to maintain the Virgin Islands’ (BVI) diplomatic and political relationships with key stakeholders in the United Kingdom (UK).

Prior to her appointment, Dr. Besson served in the senior post of Accountant General with the Government of the Virgin Islands. Throughout her career she served as Deputy Director of the Financial Services Institute at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College, Political Officer and Accountant at the BVI London Office. Additionally, she has worked with Harney Westwood and Riegels, both in London and the Virgin Islands.

Director of BVI London Office, Mr. Benito Wheatley said, “We are very pleased that Dr. Besson has joined the team.  She brings with her a wealth of professional experience, strong background knowledge of the work of BVI London Office, prior work experience on EU and UK issues and expert knowledge in the area of financial services.  Her addition to the office substantially strengthens our ability to advance the interests of the BVI in Europe, the UK and Commonwealth.”

Dr. Besson said that she is looking forward to making a contribution to the important work of the BVI London Office, which is playing a critical role at this time in the government’s efforts to reposition the Territory globally and maintain itsr international reputation.

Dr. Besson, is a Virgin Islander, and holds a PhD in Accounting and Finance from the University of Manchester, UK; a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Wright State University, Ohio, USA; and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of the West Indies.
