Deputy Governor, Mr. David D. Archer, Jr. officially visited Virgin Gorda on March 27, the first in a series of familiarisation tours to the Sister Islands.

Mr. Archer, Jr. visited the Captain Owen G. Harrigan Visitor Centre at Gun Creek to evaluate the customs, immigration and ports facilities.  He then travelled to the North Sound Community Centre and interacted with shelter occupants.

The Deputy Governor toured the ongoing renovations at the Robinson O’Neal Memorial Primary School and held extensive dialogue with public officers at the Virgin Gorda Administration Building before receiving a first-hand tour of their working environment.

The interaction provided a fruitful discussion to hear the concerns of public officers which were addressed in an open and honest environment. Mr. Archer, Jr. also expressed gratitude to the officers for their continued commitment, support and delivery of services since the events of September 2017.

Public Officers at the Public Works Department, the Social Development Department and the Virgin Gorda Police Station also interacted with the newly appointed Deputy Governor.

Mr. Archer visited two of the island’s most senior residents, Ms. Violet Stevens and Ms. Eda Flax, who will be celebrating their 100th birthday later this year.

Sister Islands Programme Coordinator, Mr. Vincent Wheatley and the Virgin Gorda District Officer, Mr. Verne Wheatley accompanied the Deputy Governor on the visit. Official visits are scheduled to Jost Van Dyke and Anegada in the near future.

The Deputy Governor’s official visit to Virgin Gorda follows on the heel of the official launch of the Public Service Transformation Initiative which was held on Monday, March 26 and was attended by more than one thousand public officers.

The Deputy Governor assists the Governor in the exercise of his functions in matters of governance, national security, public administration and court administration.
