Press Release

Department of Disaster Management
Release Date:
Friday, 24 May 2019 - 8:58am

The Department of Disaster Management will be testing its National Siren System and National Emergency Broadcast System today Friday, May 24 at 2:00 p.m.

The test is carried out on the fourth Friday of every month. The public is not expected to react once the siren is sounded, as this is only a test. Schools and businesses are however encouraged to use the opportunity of the monthly system activation to test their contingency plans.

The test is being conducted to assess the automatic capabilities of the Emergency Alert System. As a part of the exercise, the public is asked to tune into ZBVI, ZCBN, OR ZKING for test messages from the Department of Disaster Management.

Residents are reminded that text messaging is part of the Early Warning System in the BVI, therefore text messages should be issued by the cell providers CCT, Digicel and LIME.

The Department of Disaster Management is grateful to the Territory’s residents for their ongoing support and cooperation in this regard.
