The Virgin Islands is currently under a hurricane watch in association with Tropical Storm Ernesto, which means that hurricane conditions are possible in our area within the next 12 hours.

Damage assessments began yesterday as the Virgin Islands carries out its emergency response to the passage of a trough May 7 and 8.

The event dumped more than 5 inches of rain on Road Town and approximately 9 inches on Virgin Gorda.

The construction of the new National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) in McNamara, Tortola is progressing, with the concrete roof pour now complete.

The Ministry of Communications and Works is continuing its clean-up and rehabilitation efforts of the road and ghut network through the Public Works Department (PWD).

The public is notified that public schools, with the exception of Elmore Stoutt High School and the Ivan Dawson Primary School, will resume normal classes on Thursday, 5^th October, 2023.

The public is advised that with the conclusion of the Territory’s flood warning at 5:00 p.m., the National Emergency Operations Centre is deactivated.

Good afternoon to all. As you no doubt will have observed, the winds and rain from Tropical Storm Philippe’s passage have reduced significantly.

Since early this morning, I have been working closely with the Director of Disaster Management and his team in response to the effect of Tropical Storm Philippe, which we have all experienced. And of course I have also been in regular touch with the Acting Premier.
