The Government of the Virgin has signed two contracts with Quality Construction Limitedto execute rehabilitation works at Long Trench and Huntum’s Ghut under the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) Project scope.

Minister for Communications and Works, Honourable Mark Vanterpool said the contract signing marks a milestone in the efforts to complete remedial work caused by Sub-Tropical Storm Otto in 2010.

The scope of works for the Huntum’s Ghut project involves the construction of approximately 980 feet of reinforced concrete road pavement and the construction of a combination of reinforced concrete box culverts, curbs and slipper and swale drains, approximately 2500 feet long.

The scope of works for the Long Trench project includesconstruction of three reinforced concrete retaining walls, resurfacing of the damaged and undermined pavement, along the left side of the road.

Construction of a new drainage system inclusive of a pipe culvert and construction of a reinforced concrete cascading drain at the outfall of the culverts within the site. These drains will be used to channel water safely from the culvert to their respective outlets.

There are several other projects earmarked for completion with CDB funds. Minister Vanterpool encourages all qualifying contractors to bid for the execution of the prescribed works when they are advertised.

He said, “This is a unique opportunity for qualified contractors to take part in the rebuilding and continued development of our Virgin Islands.”

Projects funded by the CDB are specific to infrastructural damage caused by 2010 Sub-Tropical Storm Otto for which $15.6 million was approved for the Government of the Virgin Islands to address severely affected areas.
