Consumer Alert On Robin Hood Products Recall

The British Virgin Islands Environmental Health Division is advising consumers to discontinue the use of certain Robin Hood Flour products.

The recall is due to findings by the CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) during its investigation into a foodborne illness associated with flour. Certain items may be contaminated with E. Coli 0121. The CFIA has noted that there have been no confirmed illnesses associated with this product.

 Acting Chief Environmental Health Officer, Mrs. Yolanda Penn, stated that Road Town Wholesale, the main importer of the product, has been notified of the recall and are cooperating with the withdrawal exercise.

The public is advised to contact a medical provider if the product has been consumed with after affects. Persons should be aware that food contaminated with E. Coli O121 may not look or smell spoiled but can cause illness. Symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, mild to severe abdominal cramps and watery to bloody diarrhea. In severe cases of illness, persons may have seizures or strokes, need blood transfusions and kidney dialysis or live with permanent kidney damage. Severe cases can lead to death.
