The Government of the Virgin Islands, is undertaking extensive road rehabilitation and upgrade projects across the Territory as part of a comprehensive infrastructural development programme.

Director of the Public Works Department, Mr. Jeremy Hodge said the works to be undertaken by the Ministry of Communications and Works seek to enhance the safety and quality of the road network for both residents and visitors.

Mr. Hodge highlighted ongoing works along the Jost Van Dyke main road. He said, "Following a weather system almost two years ago, a section of the road was severely undermined, leaving the cliff side lane impassable. This reduced 45 linear feet of roadway to one lane."

The design for the road includes:

  • A drainage system with increased capacity
  • A large gabion stepped system to secure the hillside
  • A 45-foot long retaining wall for backfilling
  • Demolition of the affected concrete roadway
  • Reinstatement of the road

Additional roadworks is currently underway in the territory, including:

  • Asphalt paving of Blackburn Highway in the vicinity of Jean Hill and Fish Bay
  • Brandywine Bay Road to East End, scheduled from Wednesday, September 11 to Wednesday, September 18, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily

The public is urged to exercise caution and follow all signage during these construction periods. The Ministry of Communications and Works apologizes for any disruption and appreciates the public's understanding and cooperation in ensuring the successful completion of these vital infrastructural projects.
