The Financial Services Implementation Unit (FSIU) commends the firm, Mourant Ozannes for its recent announcement of a Legal Scholarship Programme which will benefit BVIslanders.

Mourant Ozannes is currently accepting applications for its Legal Scholarship Programme which will provide financial support for the cost of study for BVIslanders who have been accepted into an accredited institution to pursue an advanced degree in one of the company’s core practice groups.

A description of the programme states that the company is in search of “highly qualified and committed students with a global perspective who are committed to excellence in their academic and professional lives.”

 On its website, Mourant Ozannes states that “Legal Scholarship Programme students will gain insight into a wide range of legal practice areas and a variety of clients in an exciting and supportive environment.”

The scholarship opportunity is welcomed by the FSIU which has building BVIslander capability as one of its priority initiatives in the BVI Forward campaign.

Initiative Sponsor, Mrs. Lorna Smith said, “We recognise the importance of creating opportunities for BVIslanders to contribute to the financial services industry. Opportunities such as these allow BVIsladers to become suitably qualified to become part of this pillar of the BVI economy and make worthwhile contributions.”

Implementation Specialist at the FSIU, Ms. Monique Hodge who has responsibility for that particular initiative, also welcomed the Mourant Ozannes Legal Scholarship Programme.

Ms. Hodge said, “We are delighted to see this type of private sector support as the Territory seeks to strengthen the capability of the local population. The FSIU is continuously exploring partnerships which will foster more support for BVIslanders to get involved in the financial services industry.

Successful applicants for the Mourant Ozannes Legal Scholarship Programme will receive annual bursary payment towards academic fees, four weeks guaranteed work experience annually, online resources to support course of study; personal mentor for the scholarship period; constructive feedback and valuable career advice as well as the possibility of a career at Mourant Ozannes upon completion of their degree programme. The application deadline is May 31, 2016.
