Press Release
The Government of the Virgin Islands is committed to enhancing the Territory’s Road infrastructure and has completed works on the East End Road on Jost Van Dyke.
Construction work included the installation of a new drainage system, a large gabion retaining wall and the restoration of the road itself.
Minister for Communications and Works, Honourable Kye M. Rymer stated that these road improvement initiatives align with the Government’s vision of "Building a Better Road Network One Project at a Time."
Meanwhile, Director of the Public Works Department Mr. Jeremy Hodge said the department has successfully demolished and reinstated a failed section of road in Brewers Bay.
Mr. Hodge said, “This project also involved the installation of curb walls and the reconstruction of dips with retaining walls. We are currently undertaking civil works to address an undermined section of road with a retaining wall and additional curb walls."
Additionally, civil works in Paraquita Bay have been completed between the entrance to the Department of Agriculture and the Abattoir. This project involved excavating the road surface and subbase, followed by asphalt resurfacing.
Works are expected to continue with the asphalt resurfacing which began at Fish Bay and is extending to Fat Hogs Bay.
The public is urged to exercise caution and adhere to all signage during the construction periods.
The Ministry of Communications and Works remains dedicated to ensuring the continued development and maintenance of public infrastructure in keeping with international standards so that public utilities are reliable and affordable in support of an enhanced community life for every resident and visitor in the Virgin Islands.
