The Government of the Virgin Islands is seeking qualified persons to fill two vacant positions as Board Members on the Board of Immigration.

Permanent Secretary in the Premier’s Office, Mrs. Carolyn Stoutt Igwe said persons who wish to serve must be deemed to belong to the Virgin Islands by birth or descent, or be resident in the Virgin Islands for a minimum of 25 years and holding a certificate of belonger status for the same period.

Mrs. Stoutt Igwe said, “Board members must possess the leadership skills, sound knowledge of the Territory’s cultural heritage, knowledge of or a willingness to learn about and analyse emerging issues in law and human rights, both locally and globally.”

Prospective candidates must bring skills and knowledge which may include Board experience, understanding of basic Board procedures, business, and have the professional competencies and a balance of skills that match the mandate and responsibilities of the Board of Immigration.

The Board of Immigration was established under Section 14 of the Immigration and Passport Act.  The Board’s role is to provide advisory and consultative functions, without any executive or administrative functions, concerning or connected with the entry of persons into the Territory, and the residence and occupation in the Territory of persons who do not belong to the Territory.
