The Alexandrina Maduro Primary School and the Bregado Flax Educational Centre-Secondary Division are the Anti-Bullying Awareness Video Competition winners.

The competition was organised by the Ministry of Education and Culture through the Guidance and Counselling Unit for students to promote awareness to the problem of bullying, which is an aggressive and repeated behaviour that can be physical, verbal or relational. The aim was also to demonstrate how to resolve challenging situations and to restore relationships.

Private and public school students were invited to create a visual depiction of the theme, ‘Take a Stand, Lend a Hand’ in a video format of no more than two minutes. The videos were uploaded on the Government of the Virgin Islands’ Youtube and Facebook pages.

The preliminary competition was judged based on the amount of ‘likes’ each primary and secondary school received via Facebook and the final judging was decided by the counsellors from the Guidance and Counselling Unit.

In addition to the competition, students from the Alexandrina Maduro Primary School, the Technical and Vocational Institute, Francis Lettsome Primary School, and Willard Wheatley Primary School participated in an Anti-Bullying March and Ceremony Friday, March 4 at the Alexandrina Maduro Primary School grounds.

Minister for Education and Culture, Honourable Myron V. Walwyn made remarks during the ceremony and highlighted the importance of anti-bullying. Honourable Walwyn also expressed the Ministry’s support of the Guidance and Counselling Unit’s mission to educate students on anti-bullying awareness.

The videos submitted for the competition can be seen on the Government of the Virgin Islands’ Youtube page by clicking here.
