The BVI Airports Authority has announced the resumption of operations at the Anegada Airport, following a brief closure.

Managing Director Mr. Kurt Menal said operations resumed at 7:00 a.m. December 6 and extended thanks to the residents of Anegada for their patience and cooperation during the temporary closure of the airport. “We understand the inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to providing the best possible service to the community," he said.

Mr. Menal outlined the Authority's ongoing efforts to enhance safety and operational efficiency at all airports operated by the Authority.

"We are actively working on strengthening our emergency response capabilities and as a result we are in the process of acquiring two additional fire tenders, one of which is expected to join our fleet by the end of January 2024,” Mr. Menal said, adding, “These additions aim to augment our service and mitigate against potential closures in the future."

The Managing Director expressed his appreciation to the BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) for its collaboration during the closure of the airport, where permission was granted for the operations of medical evacuation flights.

He said, "The commitment of the BVIHSA to ensuring the operation of medical evacuation flights in case of emergencies is a testament to the strong partnerships that exist within our community. The collaboration underscored the importance of a coordinated response to safeguard the well-being of all residents of Anegada."

Meanwhile, Director of Operations, Mr. Kyle Cummings, also extended his appreciation to the Anegada public stating that their understanding and support are invaluable to the Authority as it works to maintain the highest standards of safety and efficiency.

Mr. Cummings emphasised the Authority's commitment to ensuring continuous, safe, and seamless transit through all airports in the Territory. "Our team remains dedicated to not only keeping all airports open at all times but also to providing a safe and reliable air travel experience for our passengers," he said.

The BVI Airports Authority looks forward to serving the Anegada community and the entire Territory with renewed vigor and extends its appreciation to everyone for their cooperation as they strive to uphold their motto of “Safety is our #1 Priority”.
