Twelve (12) companies have submitted tenders for the collection, processing and disposal of hundreds of boats that were destroyed by hurricane Irma. The evaluation process will now begin and contracts are expected to be awarded in August for removal of the derelict vessels by early September. Head of Communications at the Virgin Islands Recovery and Development Agency Ms. Colene Penn said this project is anticipated to positively impact the Territory’s tourism product and play a major role in the beautification and clean-up of the environment. The collection, processing and disposal of derelict boats is made possible through a partnership led by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration, the Recovery and Development Agency, the Virgin Islands Shipping Registry and the BVI Ports Authority.
