Farmers Week 2015 Poster Competition

The Department of Agriculture is encouraging all parents and children of elementary schools in the Virgin Islands to participate in the Territory’s annual Farmer’s Week Poster Competition. Entries should be inspired by and reflect ideas that are derived from the theme; "Youth in Agriculture - a Must! Food Security and Cultural Sustainability – a Plus!" The deadline for submission of entries is slated for Thursday, January 29.

 Winners will be selected from three categories;

4th Session Of Entrepreneurship Training Continues On Jan. 9

The National Business Bureau is advising all participants currently enrolled in the Power Move Academy (PMAC) Entrepreneurship Training that the fourth session will be held on Friday January 9.

The session begins from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Fort Burt Hotel Conference Room. Participants are asked to be on time as the sessions will start promptly. All participants are being reminded to visit their online profile and be sure to complete all assessments.

New Voters Urged To Register To Vote

The public is being reminded that continuous voter registration is in effect and all persons who are now eligible to be registered as voters should apply to the Supervisor of Elections.

Application Forms may be obtained at the Office of the Supervisor of Elections and from the post offices at East End, Road Town, West End, Carrot Bay and Cane Garden Bay on Tortola.  On Virgin Gorda, application forms are available at the Post Offices in North Sound and the Valley.

Road Works In Road Town To Take Place Tuesday, January 6

The Ministry of Communications and Works is informing the motoring public that ongoing road rehabilitation works will take place in Road Town from Tuesday, January 6 to Friday, January 9.  Works are expected to take place in the evenings to minimise the impact on the flow of traffic.

On Tuesday westward bound traffic on the Walter James Francis Drive from the roundabout at Port Purcell to the traffic light at Wickham’s Cay II junction by the Moorings will be closed to vehicular traffic from 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m

School To End At 10:00 A.M. At The Elmore Stoutt High School

The administrators at the Elmore Stoutt High School have announced that school will end at 10:00 a.m. this morning January 5, 2015 following the general assembly.

Students will return to school tomorrow January 6, 2015.

The school’s administrators apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Students Encouraged To Apply For The Virgin Islands Emerging Fellow Award

The Ministry of Education and Culture is inviting interested youth between ages 10 and 20 to apply for the Virgin Islands Emerging Fellow Award (VIEFA).  

The award will be granted to students who demonstrate exceptional qualities in sports, academics or arts. It will fund enrichment programmes held during summer of 2015. 

A Portion Of Long Bush Road To Close On Sunday, December 21

The Ministry of Communications and Works is advising the public that a section of Long Bush road in front of Billy’s Discount Supermarket, will be closed on Sunday, December 21 from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.   

The closure is needed for works on the water pipeline upgrade project which involves the installation of pressure reducing water valves.

Motorists are advised to take alternative routes.

The Ministry apologises for any inconvenience that may be caused during this period.

Update: East End Road To Close From December 19

The Ministry of Communications and Works is informing the public that the Blackburn Highway from Parham Town to the Queen Elizabeth Bridge will be closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic on evenings beginning Friday, December 19 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.  Works are expected to be completed on Monday, December 22.

The purpose of the closure is to pave and rehabilitate the road in that area.

The Ministry apologises for any inconvenience caused.

Main Street To Close On Saturday, December 20

The Ministry of Communications and Works is informing the public that Main Street, from the turn-off on Caldwell Street to the junction in front of Smith Gore will be closed on Saturday, December 20 from 7:30 a.m. to 12 noon to vehicular traffic.

The purpose of this closure is to trim and remove the trees in that area.  Motorists and pedestrians are being asked to use alternative routes. 

The Ministry sincerely apologises for any inconvenience caused during this time.
