People of the Virgin Islands; International Volunteer Day (IVD) 2018 is being celebrated this year under the theme “Volunteers build Resilient Communities”.  Through this period of celebration we want to recognise our local volunteers or those who I would like to deem heroes who have contributed and continue to assist in making their communities more resilient against natural disasters.

His Excellency the Governor Augustus J. U. Jaspert chaired the meetings held on Wednesday, 21st November, 2018 at the Premier’s Office Conference Room in the Central Administration Building.

Residents of the Virgin Islands, on Monday, 26^th November after 3:00p.m., a fire broke out at the incinerator located in Pockwood Pond, Tortola. The Fire and Rescue Department arrived promptly on the scene where the fire was contained and extinguished. Although the cause is still under investigation, I can say that eye witness accounts are alleging that a possible gas tank explosion travelled inside the area setting the building and contents on fire. I am grateful to report that no one was injured.

I am aware that there has been much speculation over whether a by-election will be held for the 5th electoral district following the sad and untimely death of the Honourable Delores Christopher last month.

We were all saddened by the passing of one of the staunch members of the House of Assembly, the Honourable Delores Christopher.
