The National Unity Government is inviting the public to a series of community meetings to discuss the ‘Framework for Implementation of the Recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry’ beginning on June 20.

Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley asserts that government reform presents an opportunity to create a better Virgin Islands

The ‘Framework for the Implementation of the Recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry Report and Other Reforms’ proposed by the Government of National Unity has been accepted by the Government of the United Kingdom.

Today marks another important step in our efforts to reform and renew our democracy and to build a better Virgin Islands.

Following the visit to the Territory in early May by UK Minister for the Overseas Territories (OTs) Rt. Hon. Amanda Milling, MP, my Administration has had very constructive discussions with Governor Rankin and UK Government officials on the Commission of Inquiry Report (COI Report) recommendations and other reforms, with a view to what is in the best interest of the people of the Territory.

Good Morning,  As people in the BVI are already aware, the Commission of Inquiry Report which was published on 29 April identified significant failures of governance, including evidence of corruption, abuse of office, and serious impropriety in public office.  To address these failures it is clear that fundamental changes are required.

Fellow Virgin Islanders,

A pleasant good morning. I speak to you today on behalf of the Government of National Unity to share our plans to hold a series of public meetings on government reform, as well as begin dialogue on other matters of public interest.

Good afternoon ladies and gentleman of the press corps and persons listening via social media and radio.

My Administration remains committed to engagement with the press and the public, so I am very pleased to have this press conference today.

Thank you, Madame Speaker for allowing me this opportunity to make this brief statement to this Honourable House.

Honourable Members, over the past few weeks there have been a number of significant developments as it relates to the Governance of the Virgin Islands and how we are continuing to ensure the good conduct of the business of the people as their democratically elected Representatives under our current Constitutional arrangement.

Premier of the Virgin Islands, Dr. the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley has affirmed that, “Reform itself remains a top priority of his administration”, in a public statement regarding key issues on government reform.
