Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Kye M. Rymer is featured as he held a press briefing on Thursday, April 18 with local media to provide an update on his recent attendance at the Seatrade Cruise Global 2024 event, the BVI Electricity Corporation’s (BVIEC) renewable energy initiative and other matters of his ministry’s portfolio.

The Ministry of Communications and Works is set to receive 15.92% of the total budget or approximately seventy-four million, nine hundred and fifty thousand dollars ($74,950,000) to fund a variety of infrastructural development projects set out in the 2024 budget.

In August 2020, during the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA) made the tough decision to reduce the hours worked by its hourly paid staff, as the operational needs of the organisation reduced. As a result, these employees’ salaries were affected because they were only paid for the hours worked and they took home less than they would have under normal circumstances.
