Let me first extend greetings to everyone in the British Virgin Islands, the Region and to those tuning in by radio and other media platforms throughout the World. I am Carvin Malone and as Minister for Health and Social Development I wish to update you on the Territory’s COVID-19 status and response; the AstraZeneca vaccine rollout and Cabinet’s decisions of Wednesday, June 23rd, 2021.
First let me say Good day and God’s Blessings to everyone. I recognise the protocols already established and I thank my honourable colleagues for being here with me also today and the hard working staff of the Ministry of Finance. God continues to lead the BVI to greener pastures.
The Government took office on February 25, 2019, committed to change and renewal including of governance in the Virgin Islands. It won an overwhelming mandate for that change, gaining the support of 46.6% of the voting electorate compared to the 28.2% of its nearest rival, the outgoing NDP government.
His Excellency, the Governor Mr. John J. Rankin, CMG, chaired the Meeting held on 9th June, 2021, which was held at the Financial Services Commission’s Conference Room.
Mister Speaker, on 2nd October, 2009, the Government of the Virgin Islands signed a loan agreement for $45 million with Banco Popular for the construction of the New Peebles Hospital Project.
As the Minister responsible for Immigration, it has been brought to my attention that several media outlets have put out information relative to an individual who was asked to depart the Territory, which allegedly resulted in the individual being separated from an infant child.
I want to begin by reminding us all that the future in the Virgin Islands is for the prepared. And this is a good point to reflect on at this time because students at all levels are coming to the end of their courses of study and are celebrating their graduation from their respective programmes.
As Minister for Health and Social Development I pledged to continually keep you abreast of new developments as we continue to live and thrive in this COVID-19 era.
