To protect vulnerable children and adults from abuse, neglect, exploitation and prevent family violence and disruption, by supporting family preservation and community living.
Process
Step 1: Contact the Department to discuss foster parenting.
Step 2: Potential parents must submit to the department for a Foster Care and Adoption Assessment. This includes:
- Completing the department Foster Care and Adoption Intake Application form
- Submitting to a child abuse and criminal background check
- Providing a medical report and police certificate
- Participating in a home inspection
- Participating in a home study to review readiness for fostering
- Participating in mandatory foster care training
Step 3: The completed documents are submitted to the Intake Officer.
Step 4: A file is created and forwarded to the Case Manager and placed on the department's waiting list.
Step 5: If an emergency arises, contact will be made with persons on the list to ascertain their readiness.
Additional Notes
Emergency situations will be dealt with within a 24 hour time frame.
