To determine the qualifying years of service of an officer for the purposes of pension calculations and eligibility for retirement.


Step 1:An officer submits a memorandum to the Department of Human Resources, requesting a calculation of his, or her, years of service.

Step 2: The request is forwarded to the Benefits Unit for review.

Step 3: The officer will be informed in writing from the Director of Human Resources, giving a response regarding his of her years of service

Additional Notes

The turnaround time is largely dependent on the accessibility of the Employee’s File and the complexity of the matter. If the officer has several movements in and out of government and extended periods of leave without pay, the calculations of his/her years of service may take additional time.
