Community Encouraged To Run/Walk Towards A Healthier VI

The Ministry of Health and Social Development continues to encourage community based physical activity as a means of achieving a healthier Virgin Islands through its Run/Walk for Health programme.

The goal of the programme is to encourage persons to engage in regular physical activity and is a joint collaboration between the Ministry of Health, Department of Youth Affairs and Sports and the BVI Olympic Committee.   

BVI Partners With OECS To Conduct Labour Force Survey

The Government of the Virgin Islands, in partnership with the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Secretariat, will be conducting a labour force survey in the Virgin Islands beginning on January 19, 2015.

Director of the Central Statistics Office, Mr. Raymond Phillips stated that a labour force survey provides estimates of employment and unemployment. These he said are among the most important indicators of economic stability of any economy.

Rehabilitation Work On Road Town Road Commences Today Jan 6

Rehabilitation work commences today January 6 on the Road Town road networks from the roundabout at the beginning of Walter James Francis Drive and on the end of Water Front Drive near Fort Burt.

This comes as government continues to modernise and improve the Territory’s infrastructure to keep them in line with international standards.

Continuous Voter Registration In Effect: New Voters Urged To Register

The Office of the Supervisor of Elections is reminding the public that continuous voter registration is in effect.  All persons who are eligible to be registered as voters are reminded that they should register by applying to the Supervisor of Elections under Section 6(1) and 14 of the Elections Act, 1994, No. 16 of 1994.

British Virgin Islanders Named In The Queen’s New Year Honours

His Excellency the Governor Mr John S. Duncan, OBE is delighted to announce that Deputy Governor Mrs V. Inez Archibald has been awarded a CBE and Mrs Annie Gardner has been awarded an MBE in the 2015 New Year Honours List.    

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II made the appointments as part of her New Year Honours List which was released in London today. The Queen’s New Year Honours List recognises individuals for outstanding achievement and service across the United Kingdom and the Overseas Territories.

Library Services Department Receives Camera Lenses Donation

Dress Code In Full Effect At Elmore Stoutt High School

Administrators at the Elmore Stoutt High School have announced that there will be strict adherence to the school’s dress code when the institution reopens on January 5.

This comes as the school’s officials continue to notify parents and guardians of the changes to take place at the high school during the 2015 school year.

Parents are therefore urged to partner with the school in ensuring that their students adhere to the school’s dress code as any violation will be met with the strictest enforcement of the consequences laid out in the Code of Conduct.

BVI Electricity Corporation Announces Bids For Solar Project

The BVI Electricity Corporation has announced that four companies have submitted bids to install approximately two megawatts of solar photovoltaic on various government buildings and statutory bodies in the Territory.

The companies will produce electricity via solar energy for the next twenty five years.

Education Act To Be Fully Enforced At Elmore Stoutt High School

Parents and guardians of students attending the Elmore Stoutt High School are being informed that the Education Act 2004 Section 18 and 19 will be fully enforced when school reopens in January 2015.

According to Principal Sandy Underhill, the Act is being enforced as a means to hold the school accountable for providing the information that binds parents and students to the rules.
