More than twenty female parliamentarians from the Commonwealth gathered in the Virgin Islands to discuss women’s issues, and strategies to promote greater female representation in the political sphere during the Eighth Conference of Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians held on Saturday, July 25.

With one week to go, Acting Premier and Minister for Natural Resources and Labour, Dr. the Honourable Kedrick Pickering is calling on the BVI community to continue to participate in the Firearm and Offensive Weapons Amnesty, an initiative spearheaded by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF).

Delivering opening remarks at the start of the training sessions, DDM’s Information and Education Manager, Ms. Philomena Robertson explained that the course exposes participants to the basic principles of disaster management, disaster planning, conducting damage assessments, designing and executing simulation exercises to test continuity plans, First Aid and emergency communications, as well as health and safety requirements and strict compliance with the BVI Labour Code.

Twenty-three public officers will be recognised for their exceptional performance when the Government of the Virgin Islands hosts its inaugural Public Service Excellence Award Ceremony.
