Continued upgrades to the Territory’s road networks are underway following a signing ceremony held today, April 16,  between the Government of the Virgin Islands and the Social Security Board for a loan agreement of $16 million.

Eleven students from the Elmore Stoutt High School will showcase their talents, intellect and poise as they compete for the titles of Mr. and Miss Fifth Form on Saturday, April 18.

The Government of the Virgin Islands is informing the public that the recently introduced harbour charges he BVI ‘territorial waters’ has been discontinued until further notice.

The Government of the Virgin Islands, through the International Tax Authority (ITA) of the Ministry of Finance is informing all financial institutions that the British Virgin Islands Financial Account Reporting System (BVIFARS) is now open and ready to accept enrolment applications from financial institutions required to submit information to the Government under the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) between the British Virgin Islands and the United States of America.

The development and welfare of the youth in the Virgin Islands continue to be a priority for the Government, as the Ministry of Education and Culture moves forward with realising the goals of the National Youth Policy.

The public is encouraged to “Wear Green and Go Green” in territorial solidarity for Earth Day 2015, Wednesday, April 22.

Environmental Officer of the Conservation and Fisheries Department, Mrs. Cynara Benjamin-Duncan, said that the department is once again trying to increase awareness of eco-friendly habits by encouraging persons to wear green and “be greener.”

The Government of the Virgin Islands is inviting tenders for the Reconstruction of Road, Slope Stabilisation and Drainage Works at Windy Hill.  

One phase of the National Sewerage Programme, from Beef Island to Long Swamp, has been successfully completed and work continues on other sections on Tortola as the Government of the Virgin Islands continues to work on remedying the sewerage problem throughout the Territory.

Students in the Virgin Islands are to benefit from a programme that promotes the adoption of healthy lifestyle behaviours as the Government embarks on a Healthy Schools Intervention Programme.

The Ministry of Education and Culture is collaborating with the Ministry of Health and Social Development to introduce this programme into the primary schools curriculum during the 2015-2016 school year beginning with Grades 2 and 3.

The community will have an opportunity to hear from  Ministers of Government as the Department of Information and Public Relations launches its television programme series titled “Conversation with Our Ministers”.
