Minister for Communications, Honourable Kye M. Rymer, made the announcement through the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (the Commission).

As part of the celebrations, the Commission is partnering with the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) to offer an Application (App) Development Course in the upcoming Fall Academic Year. This course aims to unleash the potential of technology through education and empower residents to become creators in the digital age.

"In today's digital landscape, it is crucial to equip our community with the skills needed to thrive in the ever-evolving job market," said Honourable Rymer. "By offering this App Development Course, we are taking action to support digital innovation and prepare our people for the future."

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Commission, Mr. Guy Malone, expressed his excitement about this year's celebration theme. "Telecommunications has revolutionised the way we communicate, work, do business, seek information, and learn," he said. "The Commission is committed to providing opportunities for the public to be educated on telecommunications and global connectivity, strengthening the development of the Virgin Islands."

The App Development Course is designed to provide participants with the foundational skills needed to create their own Mobile Apps. Students will gain essential computer programming knowledge and learn how to write code to develop functional apps that address real-world problems.

Vice President of Academic Affairs at HLSCC, Dr. Ronald Burnton, emphasised the importance of digital literacy in today's world. "This course goes beyond simply consuming digital content; it empowers participants to become creative and innovative producers of computer programmes and mobile apps," he said, adding, "By equipping young people and professionals with app development skills, we're preparing them to thrive in the ever-evolving digital economy."

The Commission will provide financial support for students enrolled in the App Development Course, recognising the value of investing in digital skills for the future of the Virgin Islands.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission is responsible for regulating the telecommunications sector in the Virgin Islands. Its mission is to promote the development of telecommunications services and ensure fair competition in the industry.
