The Commission of Inquiry Implementation Unit has reported that work on 47 of the 50 recommendations has begun while work on the remaining three is scheduled to begin next year, based on the timelines agreed in the Framework for Implementation of the Recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry Report and Other Reforms.

The Premier’s Office submitted the detailed monthly report on the status of work completed by all ministries up to the end of August to His Excellency the Governor John J. Rankin CMG, and Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Honourable Dr. Natalio D. Wheatley. The September report is being compiled and will be submitted by 15th October based on the Unit’s schedule.

Permanent Secretary in the Premier’s Office, Mrs. Carolyn Stoutt Igwe, said the report reflects the progress made across ministries based on the agreed timelines. She reiterated the Premier’s statement that work on 94 percent of the recommendations had been completed or in progress. The Permanent Secretary said that of the 34 recommendations being actioned now, 79.6 percent are in progress and on track and 20.4 percent are in progress with challenges to meet deadlines. Typically, these challenges have resulted in the Ministry endeavouring to expand the remit of work being done to address reform targets than was agreed in the Framework Agreement.

Every month, the Unit submits a Report Summary and Dashboard which gives a pictorial summary of all current reform work being undertaken by the Government of the Virgin Islands to the Premier’s Office for public release once the detailed report has been accepted. The Report Summary and monthly Dashboard for the month of August is now available by clicking the links on the web banner at bvi.gov.vg.

The Government of National Unity is working assiduously with public officers to advance reform and transform the operational culture, institutional practices and systems of the Government of the Virgin Islands.
