The public is notified of an increase in social engineering attacks targeting WhatsApp users.

Social engineering is a manipulation technique used by attackers to trick individuals into soliciting funds, revealing confidential information, granting unauthorized access, or performing actions that compromise security.

Please be aware of the following:

· Attackers may pose as friends, colleagues, or government officials.

· They often use urgency or fear tactics to pressure you into acting.

· Links or attachments shared via these messages could compromise your device or expose sensitive information.

Please do the following:

1. Verify the Sender: Always double-check the identity of the person contacting you.

2. Block and Delete: Immediately block and delete messages and calls from unknown or suspicious contacts.

3. Do Not Share Sensitive Information: Avoid sharing passwords, PINs, authorization codes , debit and credit cards, banking information or other confidential details on WhatsApp.

4. Be Cautious of Links: Do not click on links or download attachments unless you are certain of their legitimacy.

5. Report Suspicious Activity: Notify the authorities immediately if you suspect an attack or have shared any information.

6. Multi-Factor Authentication: Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) on your accounts, applications and email to add an extra layer of security.
