The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) concluded its commemoration of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) with an awards ceremony at Marias by the Sea on July 1.

Entrants for the competition were expected to create a three minute video about this year’s theme “Improving Lives Through Broadband Innovation".

The four successful winners are:

  • 1st Prize - Hakeem Gravesande
  • 2nd Prize - Keaun Adolphus
  • 3rd Prize - Kem Williams
  • 4th Prize - Donyelle Hodge

First prize winner Hakeem Gravesande won a tablet, five hundred dollars and two round trip tickets to attend the CANTO 2015 Conference with a TRC delegation in Miami.

In a written message, Minister for Communications and Works, Honorable Mark Vanterpool encouraged the TRC to ensure that greater emphasis is placed on fulfilling its mandate to stress the importance of broadband innovation in today's society.

Honorable Vanterpool added, "Telecommunications is central to economic development and have been playing a major and integral role in social relations. I encourage everyone, but in particular our young people, to continue to explore the world of knowledge available through the use of the Internet, as we seek to improve our lives and develop these, our beautiful Virgin Islands.”

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission has been celebrating World Telecommunication and Information Society Day since 2009.
