Maritime Advisory Board
In accordance with Section 494 (1) of the Merchant and Shipping Act, 2001 (the “Act”) as amended, mandates the establishment of the Maritime Advisory Board. The primary functions of the Board in accordance with Section 2 of Schedule 4 of the Act are:
- to advise the Cabinet on matters relating to the making or amendment of any regulations or rules made under this Act and any other matter relating to this Act as the Cabinet may request;
- to advise the Minister on such matters relating to his duties under this Act as the Minister may request;
- to act as the Virgin Islands Maritime Steering Committee for the purpose of ensuring implementation of the IMO Conventions and ensuring overall compliance with the III Code;
- to perform such other tasks as the Cabinet may determine and report to the Cabinet at such times as the Cabinet requires.
Skills and Competences Required:
Persons expressing an interest to serve as a member of the Board should be knowledgeable and have the requisite experience in maritime matters.
Compensation:
Members shall be paid such fees and allowances as the Cabinet shall determine.
