The independent spirit of Virgin Islanders will be highlighted in this year’s Territory Day celebrations.

Activities to launch the celebrations will be held on Friday, July 1 under the theme ‘Our Story: The Independent Spirit of Our People’ and will showcase three very important events in Virgin Islands history.

Territory Day celebrations will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Central Administration Building, and the programme promises to be both entertaining and educational with dramatisations of three Virgin Islands stories: Samuel and Mary Nottingham, the Quakers; The Kingston Church for the Free Africans; and Christopher Fleming and his Gun.

Another event highlight is the official presentation of the Virgin Islands Territorial Pledge. The public is encouraged to dress in Virgin Islands Territorial Wear.

The public is invited to tune in to JTV Channel 55’s Spotlight on Tuesday, June 21 at 8:00 p.m. to view a discussion by Member for the Fifth District and Chair of the Territory Day Celebrations Committee, Honourable Delores Christopher and Committee Member and Sister Islands Coordinator, Mr. Vincent Wheatley on the upcoming celebrations.

The Ministry of Education and Culture is committed to creating a “Culture of Excellence”
