FORECASTED WEATHER CONDITIONS

Mr. Speaker, I would just like to take few moments to remind all Virgin Islanders and residents to continue to be vigilant in keeping ahead of the curve as it relates to a weather system that is under development in our region.

By now, most persons would be aware that the National Hurricane Centre and other Meteorological Services in the region, are closely monitoring the progress of Invest 92L/Disturbance 1. Reports are that the system continues to develop and may be upgraded to a Tropical Depression or Tropical Storm today, Monday, or tomorrow. If it is upgraded to a tropical storm, Isaias will be the ninth tropical storm for the season.

Forecasters have indicated that the disturbance may begin affecting the Lesser Antilles from late Wednesday into Thursday and the British Virgin Islands late Thursday into Friday. They have also not ruled out the possibility that the system can upgrade to a Category 1 hurricane before reaching our area. Residents and businesses should, therefore, finalize hurricane plans and continue to monitor the progress of Disturbance 1

We must remain in a state of readiness. We want you to remain safe.

I encourage everyone to continue their preparedness to mitigate hazards that we may encounter.

The people of the Virgin Islands can be assured that your Government will continue to do its part to ‘Be Ready’ for the Atlantic Hurricane Season. Indeed, we are in the Hurricane Season, so we must ‘Be Ready’.

I continue to be immensely grateful for the continued support of many teams in the Ministries, departments, and statutory bodies of Government that continue to work together to ensure preparedness.

And, let us remain ‘ready and steady’ in this 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

May God bless us all and may he continue to watch over our Territory.
