At its weekly meeting today, the National Security Council (NSC) was updated by the Acting Commissioner of Police on a number of incidents that occurred last night on Tortola.

The NSC extended condolences to the family of Quentin Noel Magloire who was shot and killed in the Purcell Estate area in the early morning hours today.

The NSC was also updated on reports of loud sounds of what was believed to be gunshots in a number of locations around Tortola. While investigating one of the reports of possible gun fire, the police apprehended a visiting male USVI citizen.

The NSC commended the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) for their quick response and offered its full support in this and other ongoing police investigations.

The NSC is calling on members of the public to assist in playing their role in the prevention and detection of crime.

The NSC is asking anyone with any relevant information to be in touch with the police without delay or by calling Crime Stoppers and the confidential and untraceable hotline 800-8477[TIPS], 800-847-8477 and 368-9339. NSC remains committed to working with the community to improve security in the Territory.

The NSC considers matters relating to internal security and any significant security developments in the Territory, including the occurrence of significant criminal activity. The NSC is comprised of the Governor, as Chairman and members, including the Premier, the Minister for Communications and Works, the Attorney General and the Commissioner of Police.
