Educators and students throughout the Territory will celebrate with the Ministry of Education and Culture in observance of Education Week 2017.

This year’s theme is, “Care for Me, Teach Me, I Will Learn” with the subtheme, “Shared Stories, Better Learning, Stronger Communities.”

The ministry will declare the week officially open, with a ceremony on Sunday, March 12 at the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park at 4:00 p.m.

Minister for Education and Culture, Honourable Myron V. Walwyn, will deliver an address via television and radio during the day.

Schools throughout the Territory will participate in the Territory’s Commonwealth Day activities on Monday, March 13, to promote the Commonwealth’s shared values of peace, democracy and equality.

Several activities will be held on Tuesday, March 14. These include a Teacher Exchange, which will be held to allow educators from both private and public institutions to teach at a school other than the one to which he or she is assigned with the objective of sharing and/or gaining innovative instructional ideas.

Educators will also attend the annual Teacher of the Year Award Ceremony at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College campus at 6:00 p.m.

The Inter-Primary School Sports is scheduled for Division B schools on Wednesday, March 15 at the A. O. Shirley Recreation Grounds. Events will commence at 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Also on Wednesday, the St. Georges Secondary School will compete against the Claudia Creque Educational Centre in the Inter-Secondary Schools’ Debate Finals at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium at 6:00 p.m.

Division A schools will continue the week’s sporting activities on Thursday, March 16 at the A. O. Shirley Recreation Grounds beginning at 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

On Friday, March 17, the Early Childhood Unit will host a cultural fair at the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Individual schools are also required to host an Open House from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., so that educators can strengthen connections with parents.

The Virgin Islands Stars in Education Teachers’ Gala will conclude the week’s activities on Saturday, March 19 at the Multipurpose Sports Complex at 6:30 p.m.

The public is encouraged to support the week’s activities by participating in the various events from Sunday through Friday.

Education Week is an annual event in which the work of students, educators, and schools in general, are highlighted.
