The BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA) is advising patrons and the public that the Road Town Jetty will resume full operations on Sunday, May 13. 

Immediately following the passage of Hurricane Irma in September 2017, with the assistance of divers and speciality contractors, surveys were completed on all of the Territory’s port facilities. The Road Town Jetty was deemed unusable for international travel upon inspection and services have since temporarily continued from the Tortola Pier Park Tender Dock for travel to and from the United States Virgin Islands.

Acting Manager Director, Akeem Pickering said the resumption of services at the Road Town Jetty speaks of the progress underway in restoring the full functioning of the Territory’s ports. “At BVI Ports we understand our responsibility to the Territory to ensure that our facilities provide safe access to and from the Virgin Islands, particularly as it relates to our rebuilding efforts. The resumption of international services at the Road Town Jetty is a strong indication of the progress our team has made. We understand the importance of that facility supporting travel for both residents and tourists and we will continue our work to ensure all facilities have been restored.”

Pickering said they took the opportunity during the repairs to add additional space to the international arrivals terminal, which should make the clearing process more efficient and comfortable. “We wanted to address some concerns raised by residents and tourists about the general condition and comfort of the arrivals terminal. With the addition, we have been able to add a few more Immigration and Customs booths, so we anticipate the clearing process will be faster and the environment more comfortable for both travellers and officers at the Road Town Jetty.”

Ferry services to the United States Virgin Islands from the Tortola Pier Park Tender Dock will end on the evening of Saturday, May 12. All ferries departing to the United States Virgin Islands and returning service to the Territory will now resume operations from the Road Town Jetty. Travellers are asked to confirm ferry departure and arrival times with individual operators. BVI Ports Authority will continue its efforts towards the resumption of services at all of the Territory’s ports.

The Board, Management and Staff of BVIPA thanks ferry operators, Her Majesty’s Customs, the Immigration Department and the public for their patience since the relocation of services to Tortola Pier Park following the passage of Hurricane Irma.
