A beautification schedule has been put in place for Road Town which includes painting the city once a month.

City Manager Mrs. Janice Braithwaite-Edwards said this initiative is a collaborative effort between Wickhams Cay Development Authority, Public Work Department and the Department of Waste Management.

Mrs. Edwards said one of the highlights for this year is to ensure that the city is enhanced and has the same look and feel to make people comfortable, especially pedestrians.

“We’ve also improved the wheel chair access to most sidewalks within the city and we are now painting [curbs] for a visual of the ‘no parking’ zones,” Mrs. Edwards added.

A stricter cleaning schedule has also been implemented for the city which includes the cleaning of drains. This schedule is usually revised for busier times during the festival season.

Mrs. Edwards disclosed that Phase 2 of the road signs development is now being executed with a stronger and more durable design. She said     the new sign poles have a sturdier base. This phase is about 50% complete after which Phases 3 and 4 of this development will be implemented.

The City Manager is also advising mobile businesses, especially those who operate only on weekends in the town, to be mindful of how their vehicles are parked and avoid  depriving other users of possible parking spaces.

Mrs. Edwards said one of the challenges her office faces is limited parking spaces in Road Town. She added that the office is working with Town and Country Planning and other agencies to identify and open up areas for parking within the city.

Persons are strictly prohibited from parking on sidewalks that are meant for pedestrians, and permission must be granted to owners of vehicles marked “For Sale” to have their vehicles parked for extended periods of time in the city.

Persons are advised to uphold the state of the city by using garbage bins, following traffic rules and driving responsibly, as the Office of the City Manager continues to beautify Road Town.
