Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr. the Honorable D. Orlando Smith, OBE is encouraging the BVI community to enjoy the recently opened Tortola Pier Park.

Premier Smith said in remarks at the official opening ceremony of the pier park last evening that the park is also meant to be enjoyed equally by the residents of the BVI. He added that it would be a travesty if the facility is closed on evenings following the departure of visiting cruise ships.

Premier Smith stated that he was thrilled to see the new array of stores and businesses which have captured the essence of craft indigenous to the BVI.

The Honourable Premier encouraged proprietors of the different businesses at the pier park to keep their shopping facilities sufficiently exciting, in order to maintain the interests of both locals and visitors.

The Premier said, “With the vision to be the premier shopping, dining and entertainment facility in the region, I know that our pier park will surpass the competition. I am extremely satisfied with the volume of cruise passengers visiting the Territory since the opening of our expanded cruise pier”.

The construction of the cruise pier and park began on May 8, 2014.  Today, the facility houses 23 retail shops, including clothing stores, restaurants, fine jewelry, locally made craft and a bar.
