The Government of the Virgin Islands is encouraging the public to remain vigilant of their derelict vessels and take steps to claim and remove the vessel within 60 days of official notice.

Notices are being affixed to derelict vessels and the list of vessels identified as derelicts has been published in the Gazette.  If the owner of a derelict does not remove the vessel within 60 days from the date of issue on the notice, then the Receiver of Wrecks may take possession and dispose of the vessel.

Boat owners are encouraged to check their vessels for these notices. Owners can also go online to bvi.gov.vg to view a photo album of all vessels deemed derelict to check if their vessel is pictured.

The owners of listed boats should contact the Receiver of Wrecks to establish their claim on their vessel at the Virgin Islands Shipping Registry located at RG Hodge Plaza, 2nd Floor, Wickham’s Cay I, Road Town Tortola. Telephone: 468 9646 or email: vishipping@gov.vg.
