Premier and Minister of Tourism, Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith OBE, is pictured here as he received a special award for his successful participation in the 2015 Great Festival Sloop Shootout.  Director of the Virgin Islands Studies Institute at the HLSCC, Dr. Angel Smith, presented Premier Smith and his team with the award recognising his seventh victory in 12 years, which gave him the most wins in the series.  The Great Festival Sloop Shootout was created in 2004 as a means of reviving the traditional Sloop races which occurred every August Tuesday during the Emancipation Celebrations.  It is a race between the two heads of Government - the Honourable Premier of the Virgin Islands and His Excellency, the Governor - the winner receiving a perpetual trophy to display in their respective offices for a year until the next race occurs.
