Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie has offered his condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased suspected case of COVID-19.

The Premier’s words of comfort came following the announcement of the death of a 52 year old female resident who succumbed to the symptoms of her illness on the morning of April 18.

Premier Fahie said preliminary test results for COVID-19 in this patient returned positive, but will be further verified by CARPHA. He said in the meantime that this is officially a suspected case.

Premier Fahie gave the assurance that other persons who had contact with the deceased were also tested for the virus and that preliminary results for these persons returned as negative. These tests he said will be further verified by CARPHA.

The Territory’s leader reassured residents that the Government is working to ensure the safety of residents against COVID-19.

Premier Fahie said, “The safety and well being of every person on these islands is the number one priority for your Government, and for all our stakeholders who have joined with us in this united effort against the virus.”

He added, “Your life and the lives of your loved-ones – and the public - must come first. Therefore, in the interest of saving lives, we are called upon to make some additional sacrifices.”

“We must keep our efforts up and understand that we must keep hope alive,” the Premier further stated.

The Government of the Virgin Islands continues to implement precautionary measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the BVI.
