Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Andrew A. Fahie is leading a delegation to the Seatrade Cruise Global 2021 from September 27 to 30 in Miami, Florida.
The delegation is comprised of the Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities Honourable Kye M. Rymer, Junior Minister for Tourism Honourable Shari DeCastro and members from the BVI Ports Authority, C.B. Romney Tortola Pier Park, BVI Tourist Board and local cruise industry partners.
Premier Fahie explained that the Seatrade meeting will provide an opportunity for the team to meet with ports, cruise lines, and members of the cruise community to source partners, network with peers both new and known, and to hear insights from leading industry players.
The Premier said the delegation will host and engage in key strategic meetings with these stakeholders to bolster the restart of the industry in the Virgin Islands and chart a way forward in the New Regular of COVID-19.
Cruise industry partners will meet under the conference’s theme, “The Future of Cruising” over the four-day period.
Premier Fahie said, “This year’s event is critical to the Tourism industry as several cruise lines have recently restarted cruising from several ports around the world. Industry partners will discuss various topics including community stewardship, operational practices, health and safety, and sustainability.”The delegation will also engage several independent business operators including vendors, cruise operators, BVI Tour Ambassadors, tour operators, attractions, activity suppliers, bars and restaurants.
The Premier said the BVI Tourist Board & Film Commission will be sharing plans for the continued training of the hospitality industry to provide excellent guest experiences to our cruise guests at this year’s Seatrade event.
Premier, who is the Minister responsible for Ports and Tourism, shared that the resurgence of cruise in the region and the Virgin Islands is of vital importance and attending Seatrade Cruise Global is a step towards a healthy and safe return to cruise for all.
This year marks the 35th edition and first in-person event since the pandemic of Seatrade Cruise Global, the largest global cruise forum that takes place in Miami.
The Government of the Virgin Islands will continue to foster, develop and promote a sustainable tourism industry for the Territory through retaining and showcasing the values, heritage, culture, and natural beauty of the islands.
