Officials in the Department of Waste Management in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Development announce a Pre-Christmas Territory-wide Cleanup.
The clean-up will take place from December 20 to December 23. Large Bins will be placed strategically in various areas throughout the British Virgin Islands to allow the public easier access of ridding their bulky waste items during the holiday season.
Designated areas where bins will be placed are as follows:
On Tortola; Mount Sage, Brewer’s Bay, Carrot Bay, Cane Garden Bay, West End Community Centre, Cappoon’s Bay, Sea Cow’s Bay, Huntum’s Ghut, Lower Estate, Baugher’s Bay, Belle Vue, Fahie Hill, Little Dix Hill, East End Police Station, Major Bay Gas Station, Fat Hog’s Bay Tennis Court area and Brandywine Bay.
On Virgin Gorda; by the Fire Station area in the Valley and behind the Robinson O’Neal Memorial Primary School in North Sound. In Jost Van Dyke, in Great Habour and in Little Habour.
Assistant Manager of the Department of Waste Management, Mr. Anslem Meyers stated that the clean-up is part of the ongoing clean up initiative and expressed that the bins are only a temporary measure to help boost efforts in each community.
Bins will be removed on December 24 and all persons are prohibited from dumping waste at the assigned temporary areas. Offenders caught dumping in those areas will face a fine of up to $500 and/or six (6) months imprisonment. Persons are also reminded to discontinue dumping bulky waste at the communal bin sites.
Persons who are in need of assistance with collection of bulky waste are asked to contact the Department of Waste Management at 468-4934 or 468-4935.
The Ministry of Health and Social Development aspires to provide a caring and integrated system of health and social services that facilitates the recovery of human development and quality of life in the British Virgin Islands.
