Minister for Health and Social Development Honourable Carvin Malone has confirmed that the ninth reported positive case of COVID-19 in the British Virgin Islands has recovered.

Honourable Malone made the announcement during a live COVID-19 Update   this evening after reports on August 1 confirmed the detection of Case 9 who had recently returned to the Territory from abroad. The persons had remained isolated in a Government contracted facility in line with the Restricted Border Re-Opening Protocols.

The Minister for Health also stated that a total of 994 reentry registrations were received since June; 783 of them being verified by the Immigration Department and processed while 81 did not meet the requirements established for re-entry during Phase One. Of those processed registrants, 597 have returned and completed mandatory quarantine including Case 9, who has been released from isolation following their consecutive negative test results.

Honourable Malone said, “The Ministry of Health continues to work in tandem with various agencies to manage the risk of imported cases by utilising a measured approach to the re-entry of individuals in keeping with the Restricted Border Re-opening Plan.”

Health Minister Malone went on to outline the British Virgin Islands Epidemiological summary which includes over 1,757 persons tested, 8 recoveries and 1 reported death.

The public is reminded to comply with the Public Health (COVID-19 Control and Suppression Measures) Order (No. 4), 2020 to consistently adhere to the physical distancing, personal hygiene and sanitisation guidelines and mask wearing for the safety of all.
