Residents of the Virgin Islands are being urged to adapt to the ‘new regular’ as the restricted and gradual internal reopening of the BVI continues in light of COVID-19.

Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Andrew A. Fahie during a live COVID-19 update to the Territory on April, 24 stated that the ‘new regular’ means that everyone everywhere will have to make adjustments for public health and safety and to keep each other safe.

“Life as we know it will no longer be the same, and, if we do not intend to follow the new rule to be a part of society, then we must stay home,” Premier Fahie said.

He stressed that the people must continue to take COVID-19 seriously, while the rebooting of the economy is starting internally, in a phased approach and reminded the public about ensuring safe distancing and hygienic practices.

“If we do not intend to follow the new rule to be a part of society, then we must please stay at home. When we go out, we must be mindful that if we do not practice the new regular such as putting on a mask, standing 6 feet apart, we may take this virus back home to our loved ones,” the Premier said.

The Territory’s leader said all activities relating to the next 14 days must pledge to support and build the internal economy, and to ensure that this is accomplished, proper measures measuring the economic reboot forecast is most important.

“As the Territory opens up, there will be other new business activities and industries that will be created when legislation and policies come into effect. This will contribute to assuring that the ‘new regular’ can be sustained to bring about long-term returns and benefits for the people of the BVI,” the Premier added.

There will be a daily curfew starting Monday, April 27 for the next 14 days. Businesses will operate between the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. daily, and this includes the port at Purcell to allow for the receipt of shipment of cargo and other supplies.
