The Government of the Virgin Islands has appointed five members to the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Grant Selection Committee. This committee will oversee the MSME Grant Programme, which aims to provide financial support to local small businesses, stimulate innovation, create jobs, and foster sustainable economic growth.

Following a formal application process and subsequent Cabinet approval, the appointments became effective on October 1, 2024. The newly appointed committee members are Mrs. Shaina Smith-Archer, Mr. Russell Harrigan, Mrs. Janice Skelton, Mr. Kevin Smith, and Dr. Lincoln Bobb.

The Grant Selection Committee will evaluate applications and recommend successful candidates for grant funding. Comprising experienced professionals from both the public and private sectors, members have been appointed by the Minister for terms ranging from two to three years. They will serve voluntarily, with administrative support provided by the National Business Bureau within the Department of Trade, Investment Promotion, and Consumer Affairs.

Hon. Lorna G. Smith, OBE, Minister for Financial Services, Labour, and Trade, expressed her strong confidence in the newly formed committee, stating:

The MSME Grant Programme is focused on enabling local businesses to thrive and expand. The appointment of this exceptionally qualified committee marks a significant step towards achieving these goals. The Ministry of Financial Services, Labour and Trade is confident that the committee's expertise will enhance the selection process and substantially contribute to the success of MSMEs across the Territory.
