Men and boys across the Territory are encouraged to get screened as part of Men’s Health Week from June 11 to 17.

The Health screenings will be held on Friday, June 15 at the clinics in Road Town, East End, and Cane Garden Bay, on Tortola; Iris O’Neal and North Sound in Virgin Gorda; Jost Van Dyke, and Anegada. The sessions will be done from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Gender Affairs Coordinator, Ms. Tara Sue Morgan said screening will be done for diabetes, HIV/AIDs, and prostate health. She said the initiative is aimed at heightening the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage healthier lifestyles among men and boys.

Ms. Morgan added that the staff at the office will also be hosting Man Cave sessions at male dominated departments within the public service throughout the week. She explained that the sessions have allowed for men’s concerns to be heard and allow for more efficient information sharing on a face to face basis.

Men’s Health Week is being observed under the theme, ‘Men and Families-Making Healthy Connections’.

Men are encouraged to take advantage of these screenings. Persons interested in having the Office of Gender Affairs make presentations to their business or organisation can telephone the office at 852-7783.

The Ministry of Health and Social Development aspires to provide a caring and integrated system of health and social services that facilitates human development and improves the quality of life in the Virgin Islands.
