Jayden Fahie of the Elmore Stoutt High School is the winner of the 2020 Virgin Islands Housing and Population Census 2020 – Slogan Contest hosted by the Central Statistics Office.

Mr. Fahie’s winning slogan, “Participation from you and me is the key for Census 2020” secured the top spot which earned him an Apple iPad.

The second place winner is Anthony Cheltenham Jr. of the Elmore Stoutt High School with the entry, “1…2…3… Counting you and me for Census 2020”. He is the winner of a Samsung Galaxy Smartphone.

A total of 23 submissions was received by the statistics office and judged across four categories: compliance (with rules), creativity, originality and the ability to encourage cooperation or participation from the public. The judging panel was comprised of two representatives from the Ministry of Education, two representatives from the Department of Information and Public Relations and two representatives from the Central Statistics Office.

A rating scale of 1 to 4 was used for each category with 4 being the highest.  The judges were not allowed to view the names of the students.  The scores were tabulated and the student with the highest overall score was declared the winner.

The Census is an exercise that collects socio-economic and demographic information on the entire population of a country once every ten years.  The enumeration phase of the BVI Census is scheduled to commence in June 2020.  Everyone is encouraged to participate.
