The House of Assembly of the Virgin Islands mourns the loss of a distinguished leader and dedicated public servant, Mrs.  Eileene Lucia Parsons, OBE.  

Throughout her lifetime of exemplary service to the Virgin Islands, Mrs. Parsons was a respected member of the then Legislative Council. Her dedication extended right up to her passing, as she remained actively engaged in matters related to the House of Assembly, notably serving as a vital sub-committee member advising on the upcoming 75th Anniversary of the Restoration of Parliament in The Virgin Islands.

Mrs. Parsons remarkable political career included serving as Minister for Health, Education and Welfare, Deputy Premier, and Deputy Speaker. Notably, Mrs. Parsons was the first woman to be appointed a Minister in the Virgin Islands, breaking new ground and paving the way for future generations of women leaders.

Her passing marks the silencing of a significant and powerful voice in the history and cultural narrative of the Virgin Islands. Mrs. Parsons’ unwavering commitment to the advancement of our community and exemplary public service has left an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire future generations.

Mrs. Parsons was a trailblazer. Her profound contributions to the social, cultural, and political development of the Virgin Islands exemplified the values of integrity, professionalism, and respect for democratic principles and values that the House of Assembly holds dear.

As we grieve her loss, we also celebrate her extraordinary life and the lasting positive impact she made on the Territory and its people. The members and staff of the House of Assembly extend their deepest condolences to her family, friends, and all who were touched by her dedication and spirit.

 

May Mrs. Parsons’ legacy continue to inspire and guide future generations of the Virgin Islands.
