Mrs. H. Lynden Smith is the Territory’s newest recipient of the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) award from Her Majesty the Queen.  The Queen’s representative, His Excellency the Governor Augustus J.U. Jaspert is featured as he presented the insignia and the Royal Warrant to Mrs. Smith before a gathering of family, friends, past honorees and Government officials, today, Friday, June 1.  Teacher Lynden, as she is affectionately called, receives the award for services to developing education programmes and advocating literacy in the British Virgin Islands.

The most noteworthy literacy activities include the establishment of ‘Reading is Fun Week’, the ‘Dads Reach Out and Read Programme’ and ‘Books for Babies’.
